5i. Deep hip muscle control

Activate your gluteus maximus

The starting points for deep hip muscle control is actually learning to activate your gluteus maximus. While this isn't necessarily a "deep" hip muscle, its deep fibers are very important for stabilizing the hip joint.

In addition, the particular activating technique used for the gluteus maximus opens the door to simple alternate muscle activation techniques. So as well as learning to feel and control the deeper muscles of the hip joint, and as well as learning to stabilize the hip joint, you'll also learn how one simple and clearly defined muscle activation technique opens the door to other techniques.

Work towards splits

While this course isn't guaranteed to help you work towards front splits and side splits, it shows you how you can use deep hip muscle activation while working towards the splits.

For myself, when working towards front to back splits, and especially in working towards side splits, I've found that I have to play around with a variety of muscle activations. And that's one reason for the array of muscle control courses that I've provided, to help you be more flexible in applying muscle control techniques so that you can use them, among other things, for working towards improving flexibility.
